How to spot fake investment adverts

A professional-looking advert or celebrity endorsement does not prove an investment offer is genuine.

Red flags to look for

  • Promises of unusually high or guaranteed returns.
  • Celebrity endorsements that cannot be verified.
  • Pressure to invest quickly or pay more to withdraw money.

What to do next

  1. Check the firm independently using the FCA’s official tools and warning list.
  2. Use contact details from the regulator’s records, not the advert.
  3. Take time to consider the offer. ScamLock can highlight warning signs but cannot verify an investment or give investment advice.
Check a message or screenshot

Guidance supports your judgement; it cannot establish that a message is definitely safe.
